The whole product

What must work outside the vehicle before the vehicle can deliver a usable journey?

An electric car can work perfectly and still be unusable. The driver may lack a place to charge, find broken equipment or wait for a depot grid connection.

What this covers. US car buyers, Norwegian and Chinese charging comparisons and US delivery depots.

  1. Mobility and Charging · Journey Coverage

The vehicle must complete every journey the customer cannot avoid or rearrange.

Longer journeys depend on charging that the carmaker does not necessarily provide.

  2. Mobility and Charging · Unclaimed Charging

No established industry inherited responsibility for providing charging wherever drivers needed it.

Without universal responsibility, access followed housing, parking and property ownership.

  3. Mobility and Charging · Charging Access

Households with private parking can install chargers more easily than residents who depend on landlords, shared parking or public space.

Physical access is useful only when the equipment works and drivers know its status.

  4. Mobility and Charging · Charging Reliability

Installed chargers, charger uptime and accurate live information are separate measures with different owners.

Tesla reduced those coordination problems by building and integrating its own network.

  5. Mobility and Charging · Proprietary Network

Tesla improved corridor charging for its own customers without solving public charging for every driver.

A depot fleet needs more than individual chargers; it may require a major electrical-service upgrade.

  6. Value Chain Constraints · Grid Lead Time

The utility connection can determine fleet launch even after the vehicles and chargers are ready.

What this means

Treat charging and grid access as part of the product. Decide which parts to own, which to secure through partners and which dependencies you are willing to accept.
